There is a manual release, it's located behind a square piece of trim on the bottom of the lift gate. The reason it's there is because there's no normal reason to require the lift gate to be opened from the inside. BillyBalowski • 8 yr. ago. Lock the vehicle and place the wireless key away from the vehicle (at least 3 feet) walk up and open it. It will not. This is a convenience feature, if the system detects the key is in range it will automatically unlock the hatch when the button is depressed.

Nov 15, 2018 · Hatchback versions of the car don't have an unlock function for the hatch. The hatch is simply always locked. It is unlocked and opened in the single activity of pressing the rectangular button in back. There is no other unlock or open mechanism for the hatch using the key fob, or door buttons, or within the car.

The car itself does not contain any driver's area control to pop the trunk, but the Mazda keyfob does - see the picture. You have to press and hold the trunk release button for a couple of seconds and then the trunk pops open by itself. JR. Both times all I had to do was disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for about 30 seconds.. then reconnect, and that’s it, the rear gate will auto-reset. Not sure why you’re finding that you shouldn’t manually open it, but FYI, you can manually set the level you want the liftgate to open up to, so I can’t imagine opening it ...
